Millennium Square
Mission Statement
to present an artistic programme that appeals to the culturally diverse community
of Leeds;
to facilitate participatory and educational activities of a high quality, which
offer personal development and lifelong learning opportunities for attendees
and articipants;
to provide performance opportunities for high quality small-scale professional
touring companies;
to promote Leeds-based performing companies;
to develop newly established local performing companies, by providing a supportive
atmosphere for producing new work;
to benefit the people of Leeds.
The Next Stage
We
are currently programming the theatre from Winter 2005 onwards and are eager
to discuss performance, workshop and educational opportunities with performing
companies and other potential theatre users.
A Prominent Position
The Carriageworks will replace the existing Civic Theatre, which although much
loved is old fashioned and attracts only a limited range and number of activities.Incorporating
the historic structure of an early Victorian carriage works, The Carriageworks
will enjoy a prominent City Centre location on Millennium Square, operating
within a commercial development of bars, cafes and restaurants grouped around
a historic glass roofed and heated courtyard.

at this stage, the theatre specification will provide the standard of sophisticated
facilities that one would expect from a modern auditorium.
